When is it okay to create a sand beach?

• A beach may be created by installing a sand beach blanket if the existing shoreline does not provide an adequate beach, the conditions of the site are suited for such an installation, and the installation meets certain restrictions.
• Before deciding to install a sand beach blanket:
• Remove vegetation to gain an adequate beach.
• Consider the use of a swimming raft as an alternative to a sand beach.
• Evaluate the site for its appropriateness for the installation of a sand beach blanket.
• A good site should:
• have a gentle slope.
• have less than 6 inches of muck on the lake bottom.
• be located where there is minimal wave action.
• be void of springs or flowing water.
• Be an area where installation will not destroy fish or wildlife habitat, wild rice, bulrush, or other protected vegetation.
• Be aware that a sand blanket can disappear in a year or so if the above conditions are not right.
