Create A Sand Beach
When is it okay to create a sand beach?
-
A beach may be created by installing a sand beach blanket
if the existing shoreline does not provide an adequate beach, the conditions
of the site are suited for such an installation, and the installation meets
certain restrictions.
-
Before deciding to install a sand beach blanket:
-
Remove vegetation to gain an adequate beach.
-
Consider the use of a swimming raft as an alternative to
a sand beach.
-
Evaluate the site for its appropriateness for the installation
of a sand beach blanket.
-
A good site should:
-
have a gentle slope.
-
have less than 6 inches of muck on the lake bottom.
-
be located where there is minimal wave action.
-
be void of springs or flowing water.
-
Be an area where installation will not destroy fish or wildlife
habitat, wild rice, bulrush, or other protected vegetation.
-
Be aware that a sand blanket can disappear in a year or so
if the above conditions are not right.
